“Many Larger Purchasers desire “local” food but don’t have access to it. Many distributors define “local” in a much broader sense than the rest of us would. The hub will allow both parties to have access to legitimately local food on a scale that keeps costs down and efficiency high.”
– Steve Hoekstra
The Hoekstras are a multi-generational farm family. Brothers-in-law Steve Hoekstra and Nick Hull head up the Sweet Corn part of the operation and are connected with the larger Hoekstra farm operation with their dad Glenn and the rest of the family. The Hoekstras have been growing fresh market vegetables for over 45 years. Glenn’s Father-in-Law started the farm which had been in his wife’s family for several generations. You will find Hoekstras vegetables at a number for fresh market stands around the area. They also grow some corn and soybeans for the commodity market. Their favorite thing to grow is definitely sweet corn. They are good at it and have taken the time to develop diverse markets. They are excited about the opportunities that the Wisconsin Food Hub Cooperative provide.
